Welcome Message from the Administrator

The mining sector remains a major backbone of Ghana’s economy as the leading foreign exchange earner for the country.

However, the increasing illegal small-scale mining practices have brought about a devastating effect on the environment which has impacted negatively on Ghanaians, particularly those living in Mining Communities.

The primary functions of the Minerals Development Fund (MDF), are:

  • To provide financial resources for the improvement of the living standards of people living in mining communities;
  • To redress the negative impact of mining in mining communities; and
  • To advocate for responsible mining practices.

From Spending to Earning:
A New ROI-Driven Era for the MDF

The era of the MDF investing the Fund’s money into major projects without any financial return to the Fund is over. Our new approach is to do business with our partners in order to yield Return On Investment for the MDF to further support the socio-economic improvement of Ghanaians living in mining communities.
